Provincialism
There is something I m sick with and it is ‘provincialism’ , a lot of the people I know in my city (Brussels) have that provincial mentality I m going to talk about now I m not saying that being provincial is bad, I’m just not compatible anymore with that kind of frame of mind or beingness someone provincial is someone who has no or very little interests in other cultures, countries or people different that in his or her group.
Usually, when you approach someone provincial with something new he will refuse to try it saying that he doesn’t like novelty. The true is that they don’t try new things because something they perceive as the authority ‘typically the ads on TV’ didn’t tell him to try it.
Basically, if I come to some new juice from a distant country my provincial friend will not want to drink it however if they see ads about it all day long, they will drink and buy it regularly.
Provincial are followers , they have little imagination, ambition and will power, even if they have creative ability , they wont use them.
There are provincial people all over the world in all places I visited however some area contains more than others. I didn’t met a lot of them in New York, Barcelona, Malaga , Tbilisi however I met a lot of them in Brussels, Almeria, Carcassonne. There is no rule some area have more narrow minded than others I don’t know why.
When provincial folks go abroad on holiday they will tend to go place that are very familiar Almeria is such place if you are from a southern French city such as Bezier or Sete, then Almeria feels the same as these cities.
Sometimes provincial people go to holiday resorts such as those owned by Club Med there they are sure they will not meet people from a different culture than their own, I knew a provincialist guy who went to a holiday resort in Turkey, I was amazed when he told me that he didn’t get out of the resort during the entire time he was in Turkey. He said that he wasn’t interested to visit that country he just wanted to met girls (not Turkish) and have fun with his friends.
Well, I don’t want to be to bad with these people you can learn a lot of things about ‘mentality’ of a particular with them.
