Provincialism

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

There is something I m sick with and it is ‘provincialism’ , a lot of the people I know in my city (Brussels) have that provincial mentality I m going to talk about now I m not saying that being provincial is bad, I’m just not compatible anymore with that kind of frame of mind or beingness someone provincial is someone who has no or very little interests in other cultures, countries or people different that in his or her group. Battery Park City Promenade

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Last sunday, I had a long walk a very long starting at Battery Park city promenade, I walked the promenade then I went to ground zero, the Battery Park city promenade is fabulously well decorated and it is an extremely peaceful place in Lower Manhattan bordering the Hudson river.
A lot of people there are biking, running , takings pictures or simply walking however, the place is still very peaceful. Even the marina was quiet.

Time Square
My camera doesnt properly works here, I dont know why, may be it is all the shadows from the building, I keep having dark photos :( I tried many setting without success, I really need to buy a new camera and I will need to come back to Manhattan to take better quality pictures.
I already planned to come back here later this year, may be in June, September or October, those are the months I can come back, I have a long log of places to visit all around the world.
Usually, I have allergia to large cities, I don’t like Paris and I was unimpressed by Barcelona, Bucharest let me cold, however New York is great ! I love it!

The streets of Manhattan

Empire
Walking in the streets of Manhattan is an enjoyable experience, super tall skyscrapers, gigantic shops, army of fast foods, cohort of people from virtually all countries. That’s in the center of Manhattan (Midtown, downtown), in the West upper side of Manhattan there is far less skyscrapers , this is a middle class residential area, this is where I’m staying, beyond that is Harlem the largest area of Manhattan, the people there don’t look the same as the people you see downtown, they are fat with big shoes, large arms and legs and cheap clothes. There is no big brand stores in Harlem however this is still a nice place to have a walk and visit. (more…)

Lovely Central Park

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

I was so surprised to find out that Central Park is quiet, I excepted to be annoyed by car engines noise but there is nothing like this, what you hear is bird’s song mostly, I totally love the place there are a lot of squirrels here, this is a squirrels heaven. You can sit at bench and enjoy the sound of nature.

I spent 2 hours in that park ,its size is 6 % of Manhattan island; there is a zoo (Central Park Wildlife Center), an exhibition center dedicated to fauna in the park (The Dairy), a garden (Strawberry Fields – the name comes from a Beattles song) , there is also a museum (The Metropolitan Museum, right now, they have an exhibition called Barcelona-Gaudi, how nice ?)

Central park east is bordered by the fifth avenue, the houses there are expensive, I read somewhere that a 30 square meters flat is about 2000 dollars a month/ rent price in Manhattan, so I can imagine that a flat near Central Park must be super expensive. It is lovely place indeed.
