Global Consiousness

Posted by: | Comments (2)

As you might not know I lost complete interest in politic and world affair. The present cult of personality that people have toward the new president in the U.S remind me the cult of personality people had in the Germany in the 30s. I’d better stay away of that.
But, there is an interesting thing that project called the Global Consciousness Project described as follow:

The Global Consciousness Project (GCP) is an international effort involving researchers from several institutions and countries, designed to explore whether the construct of interconnected consciousness can be scientifically validated through objective measurement.

They have done some measurement during the inauguration day:

According to Dean Radin blog the red arrow on the plot points to the moment when the oath of office was being recited. This is an exploratory analysis, so it shouldn’t be regarded as persuasive as a preplanned analysis would be. But still, the coincidence in time between what was arguably the single most anticipated moment by hundreds of millions of viewers during the inauguration, and the spike in odds at the same time, is quite striking.

First, I have to say I believe that IQ isn’t important, IQ test measures your ability to pass them. I knew of a woman who had a very high IQ.
But, she could not replace fix any minor problem on her car nor was she able to come up with a new concept… all she was able to do is to solve
almost any crossword puzzles that’s about it.

But what is an IQ test ?

An article on About informs us that IQ test measures one’s current educational aptitude, or IQ. Intelligence tests usually include several types of activities measuring language based reasoning, visual-spacial reasoning, problem solving, logic, and awareness of common social realities.

IQ tests are norm-referenced and compare one student’s performance to a large group of students of the same age.

Brainwave entrainment and IQ ?

Now, if you have some faith in IQ test or if IQ is meaningful to you. Researchers in brainwave entrainment could help you to improve it.

In a controlled study, (Dr. Siegried) Othmer has found that this beta training produces average IQ increases of 23 percent. In cases where the starting IQ value was lower than 100, the average IQ increase was 33 points. Othmer has also found dramatic improvements in visual retention and auditory memory, and the subjects showed major gains in reading and arithmetic. In a one-year follow-up study, the trainees showed major improvements in self-esteem and concentration and significant improvements in such areas as handwriting, school grades, sleep, irritability, organization, hyperactivity, verbal expression, and headaches…Amazingly the improvements seem to be permanent. (Hutchison, 1994, p. 360-361).

These results warrant further research and beckon for educational application. How many special education classes and special education students could benefit from significant improvements in levels of hyperactivity, irritability, organization, and self-esteem? How many mainstream classes and students would appreciate and benefit from increased auditory memory and visual retention, IQ gains of 23 percent and improvements in verbal expression, reading and arithmetic? Pursuit of beta brain-wave training is clearly warranted for its potential to help students and teachers alike in achieving the goals of quality education.

Products with beta brain waves are Brainsync High Focus , Immrama Focus , there are certainly a lot more CDs that I have never heard of.

feelfree-headset

Nike was developping a pair of headset called FeelFree designed by Hannes Seeberg Design. Now, It is old news I’m not sure, we will see this in store but that headphone prototype had brain wave profiles designed for meditation (theta) or focus (beta, gamma), learning (light alpha) and sleep (delta); each one profile using binaural beats generator to produce the desired effect on the brain.
I found no information on the Nike website about this nor a press release on google, so I assume it will just stay a design concept until it is picked up again in the future by folks who understand brainwave entrainment and headphones. …too bad the FeelFree looks nice.
