“for a stimulus to be subliminal it has to be below the threshold of perception” ….by definition, a subliminal is below the threshold of conscious awareness, not below perception. Perhaps they don’t work in the advertized forms of self-improvement (i.e. tapes and such) and therefor are actually imperceptable–that is, unable to be perceived. However, in the form Derren Brown uses, they seem to work in the video (the players don’t consciously recognize them but pick them up subconsciously).

Derren Brown does not work with subliminals. All the stimulation he provides is by definition accessible by the 5 senses. For a stimulus to be subliminal it has to be below the threshold of perception. Subliminals don’t work.
