What is a mind map ? How to learn languages with mind map

I remember when I was in school to learn Spanish I used to make mind map instead of normal note taking, the guy sitting next to me didn’t get it. Note taking in the form of a list of vocabulary is very inefficient.
Because, it doesn’t reflect how the brain work, the brain works through association. If you watch the video below, it explains how it makes more sense to use a mind map. Mind map worked great for me to learn words related to objects such all the elements in a kitchen. I just had to make a mind map called “kitchen” (cocina) and from there create all the branches with associations. Just the way the brain work.

There’re plenty of softwares using mindmaps or useful to create them. One i use nearly every day : FreeMind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page)

Thanks you, Ikarius, I like freemind the Java-based mind map program, I should have mentioned it, I wrote in the context of someone going in class/meeting/work with pen and paper.
