Scientists concerned about BCI video games

By Louis Yagera

I previously posted about Emotiv and Neurosky these companies develop video games that use BCI (Brain Computer Interface) basically you directly control your actions in the video game from your brain without using some kind of joystick .

Some problems sufarced with such technologies in some cases the game force the user to slow down his brainwaves this leave the user lacking concentration and feeling fatigue, if a game user takes a car after such a game or operate a dangerous machine then he might face some severe trouble.

Some scientists are concerned about that. BCIs are great for gamers with disabilities, but may not be so good for the general public, says Michelle Hinn, chair of the International Game Developers Association’s Game Accessibility Special Interest Group. Hinn adds “I can’t say that this (BCI-based games) won’t cause attention deficits, because that’s a very real possibility and a very real concern,”

For some strange reasons BCI games companies Emotiv and Neurosky claim that their games aren’t neurofeedback , however, their game do affect brain-waves pattern therefore it is neurofeedback (A method to train brainwaves pattern activity)

I’m curious where all of that will lead us you can read more about this story in a Wired article.
