Mystic River as metaphor for a broken existence
ByI’m not too sure I’m learning something when I watch a movie however I learned something by watching Mystic River a movie based on the novel of the same name by writer Dennis Lehane , It tells the story of
“three boys from a defining moment in their childhood, when 11-year-old Dave Boyle was abducted off the streets of East Buckingham and sexually molested by two men before managing to escape. Boyle, Jimmy Marcus and Sean Devine grow apart as the years pass, but a quarter century later they are thrust back together when Marcus’s 19-year-old daughter, Katie, is murdered in a local park”.

In the beginning of the movie there is this terrifying scene where young Dave Boyle is forced to enter the car of his abusers (Henry and George), key moments in childhood make for a broken existence.
If one got a traumatic experience in childhood this will affect this entire personality , the person will get some traits in his personality, these personality traits may be good or bad, It depend, I knew I guy he was about late 30, he had a strong fear of women, I remember one time in a club, a girl was interested in him, the girl told him ‘hello’ and the guy freaked out and went immediately back to his home. At some point in his life something must have happened, he doesn’t want to talk about it….

In a later scene in the film when they are adults , we see Jimmy Marcus at a precinct where he does talk about what if he had gotten into that car instead of Dave Boyle, his life would have been a different thing. What if I was born in Iraq or Sierra Leone or in some ghetto cities of USA. Hmm….Jimmy Marcus said that if he had gotten into that car he would not have the ball to do the appropriate things to seduce his first wife a latina woman called Marita in adulthood, he would have certainly been paralysed by his fears.

There is a scene where Dave Boyle reveals to his wife that he was abused in childhood, he said that he had to pretend to be someone else in order to survive and he concluded by saying that the boy that escaped from Henry and George isn’t Dave, basically he was transformed or something inside him a wall of blocking emotions completely shadow his true being and potential, he illustrate that point by saying ‘It stays’ and indeed if something happened to you it will stay may be buried but it will stay unless you take concrete step to heal.
EFT offers the process to work on terrible issues in the DVDs course there is a disc dedicated to Vietnam war veterans , it is a work on the trauma they got from that war, I’m not at that disc yet, I m very curious to see it.
I enjoyed reading the book Feelings Buried Alive Never Die by Karol Truman , Truman clearly explains how people have issues at some point in their life but in order to survive emotionally they completely bury the negative emotions and the pains, therefore these emotions affect the people in life in an invisible sort of way, difficult to trace back, people just make comment like ‘I have been this for all of my life’, I talked to a friend the other day about her issue , she has strong shame issue, she cant find where that shame come from. Pretty annoying for a singer, hope that when I will get skill at EFT I will be able to help my friend.
