Following the emotions generated by a belief
ByShe had the belief that she was ugly even when her friends told her the opposite. In his post Eason wrote a bit of that girl background :
“She felt ugly. When she was very young, her father used to come home from work drunk and tie her up in the garage and beat her. Her mother was an alcoholic who lived in fear of her husband and never did anything to protect or assist her daughter.
The weight she began putting on served as a layer of protection to protect the regularly beaten little girl. Over the years, that little girl learned to dislike men and put on weight to repel them. “
That one girl was totally hypnotized by her own set of beliefs ‘I need to be protected from men’ ‘men are evil or whatever’, which generate the idea that if men are unworthy and disgusting, she must be like this too because what you think of others is usually what you think about you, the world is your mirror, this include people.
When we have a belief we interpret our emotions through that belief , if you have a belief that skydiving is unsafe and that you could get killed in the process then you will tend to be paralysed by the natural fear of jump in altitude at the minute to jump out of the plane, but if you have a belief that skydiving is seriously fun then this fear will rather energize you and at the moment you make the jump you will probably feel more energized than before.
It is possible to find the origin of a particular belief it is just a matter of following the emotions, a few weeks ago I was able to track one of my belief I noticed that I often have small or thin anger, I followed the feeling for a few days, just observing, no judgement just acceptation at some point I was able to find the root of it , which was a forgotten incident from early childhood.
If a belief hold you back , It is important to find first the belief and then its root. I do not have a sure method to do it but following your emotions seems to work well, usually a feeling leads to another feeling until the whole story unfold to yourself.
Example of hypothetical dialog to find the root of a belief :
Questioner: What do you feel about making 50,000 dollars a month ?
Answerer : Well, it should be great …I feel a small discomfort
(Now, time to completely feel that discomfort do not try to get away from it or repress it, it has a story in it for you)
Answerer: I believe it is not possible , it must require so much work…. I feel discouraged
(same process feel the discouragement)
In that dialog discomfort lead to discouragement, hypothetically , the person may have a belief of unworthiness that he will discover if he let all those emotions, feelings to unfold at front of him, at some point the story will emerge with the origin of the belief.
A good friend or a therapist might be able to guide you through this to discover your beliefs, I learnt to do it, just by observing my emotions it was enough for me, it should be enough for you too, if you do not repress or run away of what you will find out under the carpet.
