fMRI lie detection system

By

fmri

According to Daniel Langleben, a psychiatrist at the University of Pennsylvania, there is a neurophysiological difference between deception and truth. This is what he discovered after a study using fMRI (A special imaging technology used to view the structure of the brain and show the relativity between physical changes in the brain (eg, blood flow) and mental functioning (eg, performing cognitive tasks)).

The study demonstrated that when we lie the brain has more activities in some regions. This technique is more accurate than the old polygraph which is based on stress detection during a lie.

Two companies are going to sell fMRI lie detection systems No Lie MRI and Cephos Corporation, the so-called war on terrorism will certainly be the first to benefit of such technologies, based on current U.S law those systems cannot be used in court case yet. The polygraph was excluded from US courtrooms in 1923. Polygraph test can be faked by sociopath and people devoid of shame and guilt in the other hand, fMRI can detect deception with a 90% accuracy (this claims is based on study conducted on 61 participants by Medical University of South Carolina and Cephos Corp)
